Hammock material guide
The variety of hammocks available can sometimes be overwhelming. There are multiple materials and styles to chose from, and no doubt some will suit you and your needs better than others. Here at HammockStore we've compiled a guide to help you understand your options and to guide you to the perfect hammock.
Stands:
Steel Stands: always light and resistant, very easy to transport and install, waiving from 10-20 kg, it can be used both inside and outside. All steel hammock stands are powder coated which acts as an effective protection against rust and wear and tear. So it's very hard to damage or be affected by the nature's elements.
Wooden Stands: Wood will always blend perfectly into any garden, being a natural element. All of the wooden hammock stands from HammockStore are made from hardwood. This typically come from deciduous (leafy) trees and is of higher density than softwoods, growing slower with fewer rings per inch. As a result they are tough, resilient and weather and corrosion resistant, making it perfect for hammock stands.
Hammocks:
Cotton
Cotton is the best choice of hammock material for people who suffer from allergies or asthma, or those who have skin that is sensitive and prone to irritation because it is hypoallergenic. Cotton is a natural fabric and allows for better air circulation, which helps remove and absorb body moisture, drawing heat away from the skin and keeping the body cool and dry. Dyed cotton increases the fabrics resistance. Most of the hammocks available on HammockStore are made from cotton, being the choice the specialists recommend. As we want the best for you, we bring you a great collection of single, double, kids or travel hammocks, in a huge variety of styles and colours.
Synthetic materials:
Acrylic
Is very easy to dye and is stain resistant. Adding to that, it doesn't deteriorate very easy when exposed intensively to the sun, not a quality often met hammocks made from natural fibres. On the other hand, it is harder to clean then natural fibres and it gets covered in lint easily. Most of the time it is used combined with wool, to give it resistance and flexibility.
Nylon
Is one of the most weather resistant materials and will stand the test of time longer than other materials. This is why it is used for traveling hammocks, because it is lighter in weight to carrier, yet, it holds bigger weights then the cotton hammocks. It doesn't stain, but it lacks an important quality: it doesn't “breath”.
Polyester
This synthetic material is made from convoluted fibres, knitted together. It doesn't lose its colour very easily, but is harder to clean then nylon and wool. Polyester is not as resistant as the other materials. Most of the time polyester is used combined with other types of fibres.
